Katrina Trip: Day 1

Saturday, February 18, 2006
3:30 pm Eastern Time

We left school at about 2:30 California time to drive down to Sacramento. We used the athletic teams’ bus, which made for a bouncy 2.5 hour ride.
All went well to our flight to Atlanta. Well, except for the time when the flight attendant told Caleb that she would break his fingers if he didn’t stop pushing the service button. He pushed it anyway. =) But she didn’t mind too much, and even gave us free bags of peanuts.
I slept for most of the 3.5 hour flight. I only slept 2 hours the night before, so it was good to have at least a little more. I was still tired when we got to Atlanta, but Starbucks is a wonderful place… =)
Atlanta is flat, brown, and rainy. I’m not very impressed. The airport is HUGE though! Instead of shuttle busses, they have really cool subways. I was extremely excited… Hey, it’s the small things in life…
There was even a decent sized Bath and Body works. Shoot, you don’t need a mall- just go to the airport! =)
Right now, we're sitting in the airplane in Atlanta, waiting for an electrical problem to be fixed. In the meantime, Jake, Lindsey and I are playing cards. I'm finally learning how to play Hearts!

4:00 Eastern Time
We are now in the air! Hopefully the electrical problem will not impact the rest of the flight. =)

5:00 Eastern Time
I'm really tired.

7:00 pm Central Time

Here we are in Baton Rouge We are staying in some apartments that are right above a church. There are people and sleeping bags and suitcases and rubber boots everywhere!! Putting 40 people into two large large apartments... exciting!
So far the most exciting thing that I've seen so far is a Piggely-Wiggely. I watched "Win A Date with Tad Hamilton" last year, and have wanted to go to one every since. Hopefully I will be able to visit one sometime this week. =)
My thoughts are obviously quite disjointed. I fell asleep on the floor of the Baton Rouge airport. Hard ground? What hard ground? I slept just fine, thank you. =) -----
10:00 PM Central Time
Finally! Bed time... I'm so pathetic- I'm going to bed at 8:00 our time!

To be continued...
