Wildly Jumping Thoughts

We went to Little Country Church again today. I am still not very impressed with the pastor, but I found less to pick apart this time. Maybe it was because he spoke differently and used more illustrations.

Which leads me to another point. What is it with this generation's pastors? (I guess they would be of my parents' generation, age-wise.) At any rate, they all give these story-filled, watered-down, feel-good sermons. They don't teach anything with substance. I find it strange that my university keeps asking these men to come speak. Maybe they think my generation can't sit still through a deeper talk. I don't know. But I do know that the students enjoy it more when we have a deeper speaker speak (I'm turning into Dr. Suess!). To further back up my previous statement, when the student chaplains/speakers get to speak for chapel, they go right into the Word, explain it, and encourage us to apply it to our lives. None of this funny story after funny story after funny story. If we wanted funny stories, we would go to a comedy show. But we want to be fed. Unfortunately, I don't think many of the "older" generation understands that. We laugh at the funny stories because they're funny. Yes, you are going to get an obviously better response through catchy things like that, but what will really make an impact is instruction straight from God's Word. Meat, not milk.
*steps off soapbox*

So last week was fitness week. On Friday, they left a sheet on our door entitled, "20 Minute Workout In Your Dorm Room." Good grief, is it a workout! I'm not going to be able to walk tomorrow. Janelle did it yesterday, and she was pretty sore today. But man, I can feel the muscles building! Which is a very, very good thing. =) We went on our usual walk today, and I did the workout when we got back. I was supposed to do every set 3 times, but I only made it through 2 before I petered out. Besides, I hate jumping jacks.

I am getting a job this summer because I REALLY need one. Really, really need one. I'm not sure where I want to work yet, but I'm definitely going to apply to Chick Fil-A (the chicken version of In-n-Out, including the Christianity), Juice It Up, In-n-Out, and I'm thinking about lifeguarding/swim lessons. I need it to be as full-time as possible. Any other ideas? I'm plumb out. Though there are a ton of things opening up in my area, so I have plenty of options. Just not many that want to hire just for the summer. Poo.

So yeah. Today was pretty laid back. Not much homework to do, so I took my time. If I get it done too quick, I get bored. I was insanely STUPID and didn't get a DVD player installed in my computer, so I can't watch movies. Which I guess is good, in a way. But I am left desperately bored when I'm done with homework. So now I have to entertain myself. What kind of world IS this???
Anyway, here I am attempting to write an interesting post even though there is nothing going on. I think I'll call my friend.

G'night! Hope your weekend was soaked with God's love!

The Son of God... loved ME and gave Himself for ME.

And I am overwhelmed.

Do a Kay Arthur Precepts Bible study. That'll keep you from being bored! And you get MEAT, too!

Yeah, I was planning on doing that when I got home. I'm doing a little bit of this, a little bit of that for devotions right now. It's hard to know what to do/how to study/what to study. The Bible is a big book!! =) I'm looking forward to buying a Kay Arthur study.

Exactly!

He [Ezra] read from it [the Book of the Law] before the square which was in front of the Water Gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of men and women, those who could understand; and all the people were attentive to the book of the law...

They read from the book, from the law of God, translating to give the sense so that they understood the reading.

Then Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, "This day is holy to the LORD your God; do not mourn or weep." For all the people were weeping when they heard the words of the law.
