Today's Lecture

... is on Stephanator's Grammatical Peeves. These errors drive me absolutely crazy.
DISCLAIMER: I realize that I am not perfect, and am also prone to making mistakes (hard to believe, I know), but when these words are abused... I am extremely irritated.

*Itch vs. Scratch
If your arm itches, scratch it. Please don't itch your scratch. I suppose you could scratch your scratch
*To vs. Too I am going to go for a run. You can go too. "Too" means also/as well/shows inclusion. "To" signifies a destination/shows planned action/etc. (A more concrete definition would be helpful [cate].)

*You're vs. Your I am going to pick your nose. No, you're not. "Your" shows possesion, and "you're" stands for "you are." (Please note that the apostrophe is taking the place of the 'a' in 'are.')
*They're vs. There vs. Their They're running in their cool running shoes over there. "They're" stands for "they are," "there" refers to location, and "their" shows posession.
*In back of The basketball courts are in back of the building. No, they're not. They're behind the building.

So there you have it. There are many more items that are extremely vexing to me, but those will have to suffice. =)

Sincerely,
Teacher Stephanator =D

How about when someone pronounces the word "nuclear" as "nuke-yuh-ler"? Most things don't bother me to a horrible extent, but THAT does.
