Bad Theology

That is what the speaker for this week taught. We sang this song, which many people had a problem with:

If I had a little box
To put my Jesus in
I'd take Him out and *kiss kiss kiss*
And put Him back again.

And if I had a little box
To put the devil in
I'd take him out and SMASH HIS FACE!!!
And put him back again.

Am I the only child that did not learn that song? Anyway, a lot of people told him that it was bad theology because we're not supposed to put Jesus in a box; we're supposed to share Him with the world. And the verse about the devil was a bit flippant; he is a real and powerful threat.
The speaker also said that we should love ourselves by making right choices. I have always struggled with the loving-yourself thing. I realize we all do because we are selfish beings, but to consciously and deliberately love yourself? I thought we were supposed to make the right choices in order to glorify God with your life?

All this thinking makes me tired. Back to homework! Oh wait... ;-)

What child has ever heard that song?? From the words I would've guessed that it was a parody...

Given the prevalence of a certain Jamaican rendition of a certain popular song *ahem*, we bretheren might also be letting a few questionable songs by lately. But seriously we can't have been doing that bad of a job: your gut instinct pointed right where Jude was getting at on an obscure topic in scripture.

Man, that song was basically the theme song of my old youth ministry and man did I hate it. I must have heard that a million times and each time someone began singing it, I wanted to smash their face. It was almost like a rally song. I'm so glad I got out of there! And I agree with everything you said in that too. All so true.
