4th of July!

Since most of our extended family has moved to Idaho/Washington, our holidays around here are rather boring. It was a slow start this morning, but we got moving by lunch time and enjoyed the cuisine of Wendy's. We then went to see Ratatouille (or however you spell it). I later remembered that there was a free (FREE!) Phil Wickam concert at a church down the street. Arg! I'm so irritated that I forgot.

I'm working a decent amount of hours (for working in a coffee shop- no 12 hours days for me!), and I will be working more in the weeks to come. Everyone seems to be going on vacation. Sad day! Two of our workers are going to be gone the same week, which just happens to be the week of Shallowbrook. =( I'm really sad to be missing it. I am going to Lassen though, if that's any consolation. I was going to blog about some of the drama at work, but I won't. Who knows who might read this. *glances around suspiciously*

I've read about 1/4 of Les Miserables in the past couple weeks. I read the first half of the book last summer, got too busy over the school year to continue, and then restarted (with the help of SparkNotes) this summer. I hope to finish it before school starts. The book is really good, though Victor Hugo does spend a bit too much time on some background and explainations, in my humble opinion. I skipped about 40 pages of French history. That's the only problem of reading the unabridged version. Next: see the musical! =)
I'm also reading Dietrich Bonhoffer's The Cost of Discipleship. So far, so good. Of course I'm only about 4 pages into it, but whatever. It's interesting and thought-provoking so far.

Otherwise, nothing too exciting is going on. OH, we finished our patio cover! Notched plywood, shingles and everything! It looks quite nice, and stays rather shady during the day. The weather starts to cool off around 6pm each day; perfect for relaxing outside on the swing. Hooray for summer evenings!

I really miss all my school friends. When does school start?!??
