Well, I missed Groundhog Day by a few days, but oh well. Hopefully he saw his shadow, or didn't see his shadow, depending on if it represents spring coming early. Cold is so overrated. It's been beautiful this past week, and I don't want it to go away. And going away it is. It was slightly cooler yesterday, and even cooler today. I still was able to go out side without a jacket in the afternoon, but there was a little bit of a chill in the air. Come, spring, come!!
My Cognitive Psych class is so easy. It's an upper sophomore level class, but it's really not that bad. We have to read one chapter a week, and turn in the answer to the assigned question. We have a total of 4 quizzes, I do believe. The prof's policy is that if one has perfect attendance AND they have an A in the class, they do not have to take the final. Which she does the week before official finals week, so we don't have to stress as much. I love this teacher! Last Thursday we were talking about anterograde amnesia (the inability to store new information), so of course we had to watch part of 50 First Dates (starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore). I really don't mind watching movies in class, but I hate that movie. Great potential, wonderful story line, perverted characters. Anyway, after about 20 minutes of class time was taken up with the movie, we moved on to about 5-10 minutes of lecture. Because it's cognitive psychology, using our brains is rather emphasized. So we played chess. Before I came to college, I was told I would learn things about myself; I don't like chess. Once we wrapped up the chess game, we started another movie: Searching for Bobby Fisher. It's a true story about some chess champion that disappeared for many years. Apparently he was found last November or something. Anyway, I think we're watching more of the movie on Tuesday. It's kind of a fun class. We don't do much. So that's cool.
Bio is going a little better. We jumped right into a little bit of physics (energy), so that's tough. I'm still trying to figure out the ADP --> ATP and NADP -->NADPH stuff- what is it? I know NADPH/NADP are high energy electron carriers, but... gah. And ATP is adenosine triphosphate, of which when the last phosphate bond on the "string" is broken, it releases lots of energy, making adenosine diphosphate (ADP) (sorry if that sentence made no sense). This produces energy. Anyway, enough on that.
Thankfully, my bio prof is pretty funny. She describes things with her hands, and when she is talking about something small, she pull her hands up close to her face, and in looking at her hands, goes cross-eyed. It's hilarious. And she describes things funny. In our lab notebook: "If you are having difficulty focusing on the blood cells you might use 'Pam's party trick for finding really small stuff on a slide.'" How technical. But it makes it a little lighter to read.
(NOTE TO ALL BIO NERDS- I MEAN, INTELLECTUALS [beck and niloticus]: the previous was a very, very simplified form of... stuff, and I realize that. Keep in mind that this is INTRO to bio. Most of us don't even want to be there. Though props to you both for understanding this stuff.)
Janelle and I went jogging/walking yesterday. I really need new shoes. I have had these ones for 4 or 5 years, and they have no more padding whatsoever. Which I think contributed to lovely pain I experienced in my arches, calves, and shins. That, or I didn't stretch quite well enough. But my shins have been starting to hurt recently, so I don't think lack of stretching was the whole problem. Hopefully I don't get shin splints. Those are great fun. So whenever I get some money, I'm going to get new running shoes. I refuse to run in that much pain again. It was terrible. I can usually push through it, but this time it hurt so much I almost cried. Plus, who doesn't want new shoes??!!?
Well, it's 11:00. I'm going to bed. Goodnight!

They should've had you watch Memento instead--I still can't wrap my mind around that movie. Definitely a more thoughtful presentation of anterograde amnesia.
And according to Punxatawney Phil, we still have 6 more weeks of winter, sorry. :(
