The weather here is incredible. Absolutely perfect. My "Weather Bug" from AOL says it is 77 degrees. And with a slight breeze, it's prefect. It's so calming it makes me sleepy. But I have homework, so I must not go to sleep!! I have only taken one or two half-naps since I've been here. (Half-nap: Lying down and closing your eyes without actually sleeping. -Stephanator's definition.) But a nap sure sounds good right now...

This morning's homework was psych. The discussions this week are on psychological disorders, so guess what is part of my reading. You guessed it- phobias. Why in the world do the most random phobias have names?? How many people are actually scared of these things? Well, apparently there are because there was a need to make names for their phobia.
***Trivia Of The Day***
(Brought to you in part by The Stephanator for your learning and mental development.)
What is:
~acarophobia?
~zemmiphobia?
~fear of fear?
~arachibutyrophobia?
~hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia?
Personally, I do not have any of these phobias. In fact, I am quite the opposite of the latter phobia (it is way too long a word to spell out again). I enjoy what those people fear (usually).
I have diagnosed myself with two phobias: acrophobia and Japanese beetle phobia. A couple weeks ago, two guys I know stood up on the railing of the second floor of their dorm. Freaked. me. out. I got so panicky that I couldn't even watch.
Phobia: "...phobias are intense, irrational fears that a person cannot shake off, even when there is no real danger... People affected by phobias recognize that their fears are unreasonable, but they cannot control them."
-Psychology: A Journey, by Dennis Coon, p. 448
That about sums up my fear of Japanese beetles. So my phobias are pretty dumb, but they're phobias nonetheless.

Heh. It'd be funny if that last one was "fear of unnaturally long words." :)
I have bugaphobia. Although it's more a combination of unreasonably passionate hatred mixed with fear, not just uncontrollable fear alone.
I'm afraid of change. Is that a phobia?

I used to be afraid that God would make me marry someone i couldn't bare too touch because he was so ugly or gave me the willies.
I even had a boy who came up to me once and said, "God told me we're going to get married one day." I thought it was the fulfillment of years of fear and he FREAKED me out!! Finally, this year I told him off for good (after 9 years.. sheesh what is my problem?!).
Who wants a last name like "Cook" Anyway?! His father was probably the originator of all those "Women belong in the kitchen" jokes and was so proud of himself he changed his last name!!!
