I just took a psych exam. I hope I did well. I feel like I did ok. Maybe a B? We'll see. Hopefully the scores will be posted today.

I've been learning really interesting stuff in psych, though. I think the most facinating thing so far has been synesthesia. Synesthesia occurs when you have mixed, or crossed, sense. So instead of just hearing a concert, someone with synesthesia would both hear and see the concert. How does this happen? Well, let me explain as best a freshman level psychology student can. =) When one hears sound, a certain part of the brain is activated (I don't know which- we didn't go into that). When one sees objects, another part of the brain is activated. However, with synesthesia, the senses are mixed. Thus when a concert is heard, both the part of the brain for hearing and the part of the brain for sight are activated. One guy in the video thing we watched had this type of synesthesia. He was sitting in a room listening to classical music. As he listened, he described what he was seeing. He saw bright flashes of blue and a pink staircase. But you know what was crazy about that? He's blind!! Fascinating.
Obvioulsy, sight and hearing are not the only senses that can be crossed. One man could taste words. London tasted like lumpy mashed potatoes. Future tasted like peaches. Friday tasted like fried spam. Vicky, the interviewer, tasted like crayons. His ex-girlfriend Tracy didn't last long. She "tasted" like flaky pastry, a flavor and texture he hates.
One lady could feel music. She could feel guitars on her ankles and a violin on her face. She said that when the violin played, it felt as though a soft breeze was blowing across her face.
For one woman, each letter of the alphabet is a different color. A is a very pretty light pink. So not only is each page in a book black and white, each letter of every word is a different color. Makes for colorful reading!
The drawback, each said, was that they experienced sensory overload everyday. They went to bed exhausted each night. They have to distinguish each sensory input to decide what is really happening.

I had my first day of work yesterday. It went well, I made 6 calls in 3 hours. Yes, I realize this doesn't seem like much, but I have to look up the donor's information, call them, talk to them, and log the information once I'm finished with the conversation. Then I start the process all over again for the next person.
I talked to one older man last night who was absolutely hysterical! At the end of each conversation we ask if we can pray for them in any way. He said, "Well, as I mentioned before, I'm turning 85 in December, and everything is hunkey dorey, and just lovely." I almost started laughing!! He was so awesome. Old people are pretty cool. =)

I was talking a girl during lunch the other day. She is in charge of a missions team to Romania. I've always wanted to go on a missions trip, so I'm really considering it. They introduced all the teams today at chapel. I signed up for information for that one, one in Honduras, and one in Ukraine. I don't even know where theses placed are (FAR away!). I'm going to have to look them up on a map. But what they were doing sounds really cool, and something I would like to help with. Romania and Honduras are both going to orphanages. (Or was it Ukraine? Hm. Well, the Romania trip is definitely to an orphanage.) Anyway, I can't wait to get information on that. *GASP* The dates!! It better not coincide with Beck's wedding. No worries, I'm going to the wedding!! =) I wouldn't miss that for the world.

Please excuse spelling and grammatical (sp?) errors. I forgot to check before I posted. =)
Synesthesia is quite fun from the neurological standpoint as well. =)
I've heard about that, that's so bizarre...
I think the weirdest thing I remember learning about in General Psych was this thing called blindsight. Since the part of your brain that connects with your eyes is in the back part of your brain, if you fall and hit the back of your head really hard you could go blind, but your eyes still work fine. So, if someone throws something at you and your eyes are open, your reflexes kick in and you duck the object, even though you can't see it. So weird.
